The fall of Texas

Strange heading I will admit but I shall explain. Since I am from Texas and very proud of that fact, Dennis and I decided we would have a “Texas” room when we moved into a bigger place from our old apartment. We had gathered many treasures from the Mercado and other places in San Antonio and saved them for our wonderful room. When our moving day arrived to move to our new place, we finally found the opportunity to decorate and dedicate a room to my beloved Texas. We bought a nice white pullout bed and matching dresser from IKEA, a rustic wooden mirror, a rustic wooden frame and, of course, University of Texas orange paint. After a few hours of painting, even more hours of cursing and reading IKEA directions, and another hour or two looking for our Texas treasures, we started the finishing touches on the room. We framed the Declaration of Texas Independence, hung the mirror and our tin sign reading “Save a horse, ride a cowboy”, put our Texas flag blanket down on the floor as a rug and spread our $6 Mexican blanket on the guest bed, we were done with our pride and joy. This was our homage to Texas, my hark back to home, our cave of UT orange and Tex-Mex nick nacks. It was glorious. A site to behold. It looked as if Texas threw up.

I remember when my parents visited our new house for the first time and decided to take the new Texas Suite for a test run, we had a Texas size mini bar. And as they say, “Every thing’s bigger in Texas” they were right. We had a 5 (yes that is five) liter jug of white wine and a 2 kilogram bucket of peanuts ready and waiting for my parents. Now, you must understand, my dad LOVES peanuts. but even he didn’t finish them in the week or two of their visit. But they did manage to drink the jug of wine with out getting a hang over… They loved that room and made a few comments on it as well. Luckily they were not the only guests to enjoy our Texas exorcist room. But that is with out mini bar, but with my home made chocolate chip cookies.

But as the title of the blog says, Texas has fallen. Dennis has taken apart the bed and our haven has started to empty. When we walked in to the room tonight, it was really sad. Now it will be our storage room of boxes and junk (mind you fantastic, irreplaceable junk that is coming with us). All I can hope for is the rise of Texas again at Little Limburg. We shall never fully surrender ;-) .

Maybe you can decorate a Limburg-room in your new home? With a lot of delfts blauw, and wooden shoes, and fake tulips?
